Datteltäter Academy

The Academy

Datteltäter Academy is a fellowship program for young BIPOC content creators who show promise in the creative field. The initiative highlights the work of young content creators contributing to social discourse, with a focus in Germany. In addition to providing a platform for their work, the program also prepares young creators to continue producing high quality work through targeted mentorship and a rigorous workshop series. As part of the program, fellows will produce a final project tackling a social issue of their choosing to be presented at a final event in Berlin.

Academy FAQs

What are we expected to do in the program? Each Fellow will work on a project that addresses a social impact issue of their choosing. Once your submitted project proposal is approved, you’ll be paired with a mentor to help you through your project. Each fellow is guaranteed 4-6 sessions with their mentor. You’ll also have the project manager and coordinator to help you throughout the program (Maryam & Anja!)

Can I take part in the program if I work and/or study? Yes! The Academy is not a full-time program and workshops are digitally held 1-2 times a week in the evening and on weekends.

Is there an age restriction? You must be 18 by the time the program starts (typically end of March).

Do you have to live in Berlin to participate? No, most workshops take place digitally. Your presence in Berlin is only required for the retreat weekends.

Do I already have to have significant reach online? No! But an affinity for social media is an advantage.

Is the program only for people who are already experienced? Some level of experience is required, yes. But you don’t have to be an expert. We will ask to see samples of your work, so do keep that in mind.

I don’t have any equipment, can I still participate? As long as you have a device that enables you to access the internet regularly (e.g. Laptop, PC, Smartphone..) you can participate. If you live in or near Berlin, we can usually help with providing equipment for you to work on your final project. You’ll also be expected to attend workshops (majority virtual), as well as two in-person retreats.
