Datteltäter Academy is a fellowship program for young BIPOC content creators who show promise in the creative field. The initiative highlights the work of young content creators contributing to social discourse, with a focus in Germany. In addition to providing a platform for their work, the program also prepares young creators to continue producing high quality work through targeted mentorship and a rigorous workshop series. As part of the program, fellows will produce a final project tackling a social issue of their choosing to be presented at a final event in Berlin.
Can I take part in the program if I work and/or study? Yes! The Academy is not a full-time program and workshops are digitally held 1-2 times a week in the evening and on weekends.
Is there an age restriction? No, if you fit in, you fit in! You should have an interest in creating content that has added value for your community and/or other communities.
Do you have to live in Berlin to participate? No, most workshops take place digitally. Your presence in Berlin is only required for the retreat weekends (pending COVID-19 restrictions).
Do I already have to have significant reach online? No! An affinity for social media is an advantage.
Is the program only for people who are already experienced? It never hurts to already have an overview or even a well-developed skill set. However, we do not choose based on skills that have already been learned, but want to remain fair and offer opportunities to people at all stages of their development.
I don’t have any equipment, can I still participate? Absolutely. A smartphone is often enough, but apart from that it’s absolutely no problem if you don’t have any equipment. It was planned to hold all practical and technical workshops offline and provide all participants with equipment. We are working on a solution for digital trainings to give everyone access to the necessary equipment!
After 5 successful years as the largest Muslim satire YouTube channel in Germany, it is time to give back. We believe that opening Datteltäter Academy will be our next successful venture. It is a program cultivating the next generation of young German talents.
Datteltäter Academy is funded as a model project by the Federal Ministry for Family, Seniors, Women and Youth as part of the federal program “Demokratie leben!”, and the Berlin Senate Department for Integration, Labor and Social Affairs.
